School Board Recap – 8/15/12

Members of the Pulaski Community School District Board of Education voted to reduce the tax impact of the district’s referendum at their meeting on Wednesday, August 15. If voters support the $33 million measure, which will appear on the ballot during the November 6 Presidential Election, PCSD residents will see an 82 cent mill rate increase beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, down from the board’s original proposal that would have increased mill rates by $1.15.

As part of the referendum, every school in the district would see renovations and repairs. The proposal also includes plans for a new district athletic complex, aquatic center and funds for classroom technology.

School Board Meeting Recap- May 16

The Pulaski Community School District Board of Education met on Wednesday, May 16, to discuss the possible out-sourcing of the district’s food service, as well as many other agenda items. After extensive debate, board members decided to keep the district’s own food-service employees as long as a new food service director can be hired by September 1.

Current district food service director, Sheila Price, will be resigning at the end of June after accepting a position at a school district in southern Wisconsin.

According to board members, the district will be searching for a dynamic leader with extensive experience in food service who can also provide training for the district’s employees. The district hopes to improve creativity and innovation among its workers by providing additional professional growth opportunities for food-service employees.

School Board Meeting Recap– April 25

The Pulaski Community School District Board of Education met on Wednesday, April 25, to discuss numerous items, including building budgets for the 2012-2013 school year and the district’s newly crafted employee handbook. Board members also heard a presentation by the district’s current food service department employees regarding the changes made to the food service this year.

As part of their presentation, the district’s food service employees highlighted the healthy changes made to schools’ menus this year, including the addition of fruit and salad bars, “made from scratch” entrees and increased vegetarian options across the board.

Meeting attendees were even treated to samples of home-made pizzas, sandwiches and vegetables made by food service employees.

School Board Meeting Recap – March 21st, 2012

Pulaski Community School District administrators unveiled plans to implement new Common Core State Standards at the School Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 21. The standards, which have already been adopted by 45 states are currently being implemented nationwide, are very different than current the state’s current academic standards, and will focus on logic, reasoning and writing.

School Board Meeting Recap – March 7th, 2012

The Pulaski Board of Education met on Wednesday, March 7, to discuss a variety of issues, including the possible outsourcing for district custodial services, the development of the Pulaski Community School District employee handbook, the creation of the district’s first charter school as well as an update on the possible district referendum in November 2012.

After hearing citizens’ input regarding the district’s current custodial services, as well as a report by District Facilities Director Kevin Bahr, board members decided to keep the district’s own custodial services. Instead, they will change the employee designation when two of the district’s current employees retire at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. (more…)
